This page lists conditions for linking to this website and licensing original content (intellectual property or IP) created by V. Subhash. Prior permission is generally not required, as Subhash favours a free and fair society. However, there are situations when you do need to seek and obtain his permission. Do read on.
Linking to articles
If you wish to include a link to a page on this website in
- an article for a website or
- a post on your personal blog (online diary),
then you do not need prior permission from Subhash. However, DO NOT HOTLINK TO IMAGES OR OTHER BINARY FILES ON THIS WEBSITE.
You can quote limited text content from an article on this website for the purpose of writing a critical review (positive or negative) without prior permission from Subhash. However, DO NOT PERFORM ANY CONTENT-SCRAPING. Do not use the content on this website as training datasets for artificial intelligence programs.
Reuse of graphics
If you wish to use a graphic from this website on another website for the purpose of listing or reviewing a book or software created by Subhash, then host that graphic on that other website or some other website host. No prior permission from Subhash is necessary for such a listing or review. DO NOT HOTLINK TO IMAGES ON THIS WEBSITE.
If you wish to use a book cover image or software screenshot in a printed publication, then ask permission from Subhash, as the images on this website are optimized for its dark colour theme and may have an unsightly black background, ragged edges and downsampled colours. When you obtain permission, Subhash may provide you a high-density image with a transparent background. If you are happy with the image as is on this website, then you can go ahead without seeking prior permission from Subhash.
Citations in articles, journals, books, magazines, podcasts, news reports, documentaries, etc.
As stated earlier, a free society is hinged on open debate. The copyright laws of most countries allow for fair or limited use of copyrighted content without prior permission of the original content creator, even when used for commercial exploitation. If you wish to merely make a comment or include a citation about an article, book or software created by Subhash, then no prior permission is necessary. Make sure that the amount of copied content is limited and non-competitive.
You can follow any well-known citation standard but the authorship of the cited original content should not be misrepresented, omitted or hidden.
Book rights
Most of the 30 books that V. Subhash has written were self-published. Their paperbacks have to be imported at prices unaffordable to most Indians. If a traditional publisher wishes to publish them in India at competitive rates, then they are more than welcome to contact Subhash for licensing the copyrights.
Book translation rights
If you are interested in translating a book written by V. Subhash, you need to obtain permission.
- I cannot give translation rights for the book Quick Start Guide to FFmpeg. I have licensed them to Apress/SpringerNature. Contact them if you are interested.
TV and film adaptation rights
If you wish to adapt a fiction work written by V. Subhash (such as Unlikely Stories) for television or film, then you need to obtain approval.
If you wish to use content from a non-fiction book written by V. Subhash in a documentary film, then also you need to obtain approval. No monetary compensation will be sought if substantial part of the movie is not based on the book.
