Eternal daughter-in-law-and-mother-in-law feuds are the staple of Indian soap operas. In a traditional society like Japan, such shows seem to have had good reception. Double Kitchen features a stay-at-home mother-in-law and her daily feud with her working-woman daughter-in-law. The matron has two daughters of her own — one has married a jobless musician without permission and other is just jobless (not without trying). Her husband has given the upper floor to their son so they can both pay back the loan taken for the home. It is a tight ship but the mother-in-law wants her daughter-in-law to give up her career as a magazine editor and stay at home. The daughter-in-law is adamant about her career while trying her best to get into the good graces of her new mother-in-law.
There were plenty of comical situations and I enjoyed them more than I thought I would. The acting and direction is without blemish. Overall, it is a good family-friendly TV serial.
